Amazing photos and stories from real heroes

Good morning,

In this weeks’ email we have a story of a Father and son spy team, a Medal of Honor WWII hero, the 10 most advanced weapons currently being used, and much more.

As ever we start with a story that takes you back in time. Do you remember this? 👇

On this day in 1985:

On May 22, 1985, a significant event unfolded as Michael Lance Walker, the youngest member of a notorious family spy ring, was arrested for spying on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. Walker's espionage activities were motivated partly by a desire to please his father.

The espionage ring, led by Walker's father, John A. Walker Jr., had operated for 17 years, inflicting extensive damage to national security. Michael Walker's involvement in the spy activities was revealed when a box containing 15 pounds of stolen secret documents was discovered hidden near his bunk on the USS Nimitz.

Michael Walker, along with his retired Navy warrant officer father, pleaded guilty to spying charges. During his testimony, he admitted becoming a spy in 1983 "for the money, and to please my father."

After serving 15 years of a 25-year prison sentence, Walker emerged as a changed person.

Medal of Honor Monday

Today, we honor the heroic actions of First Lieutenant Thomas Baker, whose extraordinary bravery during the Battle of Saipan in World War II has forever etched his name in the annals of military history.

During the intense fighting on Saipan, Baker found himself seriously wounded but refused to be evacuated. With unwavering determination, he chose to stay with his men and lead them in the face of overwhelming adversity. The enemy launched a ferocious counterattack, seeking to regain control of a strategic position.

Undeterred by his injuries, Baker took charge of his dwindling unit, employing his machine gun to unleash a hail of bullets upon the encroaching enemy forces. As the enemy closed in, he resorted to more unconventional means, using his own body as a shield to protect his comrades from the onslaught.

Despite the excruciating pain and mounting injuries, Baker single-handedly held off the entire Japanese counterattack, buying crucial time for his unit to regroup and reinforce their defenses. It was a testament to his indomitable spirit and unwavering devotion to duty.

Tragically, Baker eventually succumbed to his wounds, but not before ensuring the safety and survival of his fellow soldiers. His heroic actions and selfless sacrifice inspired those around him and contributed significantly to the success of the mission.
